VMU Technician

Bluestones Staffing is working with one of the leading distribution centres in Liverpool.

Due to continued success our client is recruiting for a VMU Technician.

Location/Base: Distribution Centres, Liverpool / Amesbury

Reports to:       Fleet and Compliance Manager

Hours:             An average of 38.61 hours per week covering 12 hour shifts on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern (6am – 6pm / 7am – 7pm)

Overview

The VMU Technician maintains and repairs the Company’s commercial fleet ensuring legal compliance and safe and fit for use.

Main Objectives and Responsibilities:

·         Use PPE as required and adhere to health and safety procedures and            legal requirements

·         Comply with Company policy and procedure

·         Carry out vehicle preventative maintenance inspection and          servicing,    MOT preparation and repairs to the highest standard

·         Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately, using computer-based diagnostic equipment

·         Repair or replace broken or defective parts and resolve defects

·         Carry out DVSA vehicle testing (if authorised)

·         Road test vehicles to check repairs

·         Maintain VMU equipment and working areas to a good, clean condition

·         Follow appropriate, job-specific checklists to ensure all jobs are completed according to the specific process

·         Use of hand tools and general garage equipment

·         Tail Lift maintenance and vehicle body work repairs, fabrication and basic welding processes

·         Provide competent support and assistance to VMU and Transport colleagues

·         Complete administrative tasks and reports as requested

·         Ensure paperwork is completed promptly and correctly

·         Deal professionally and courteously with internal/external enquiries

·         Communicate with VMU and Transport management of any delays/additional work required

·         Other VMU related duties as requested, commensurate with skill set

 

Knowledge, Training and Experience

·         Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role including HGV trailer maintenance

·         Level 2 City & Guilds or BTECH National in HGV Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent UK recognised qualification

·         Full UK Driving licence (HGV category desirable)

·         Must own standard tools – more specific tools are provided

·         Experience of using diagnostic equipment in vehicle and trailer maintenance

·         Experience of working in a team

·         Experience of working in a multi-tasking role

·         Experience of Volvo and Mercedes commercial vehicles desirable

·         Experience of working with HGV trailer and tail lift maintenance desirable

·         IRTEC licence in vehicle inspection desirable

Bluestones staffing is working with a leading Retail Distribution Centre in Liverpool.

Due to continued growth and success our client is looking to recruit a Fleet and Legal Compliance Assistant.

Duration:  Permanent

Salary:       £28k

Location:  Liverpool

You will be working within the purpose built vehicle maintenance unit at our one million sq. ft. distribution centre.

The unit is  a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Authorised Facility (DSVA ATF) and operates a Tachograph bay with six fully equipped working bays which enables the maintenance and servicing of our modern fleet of vehicles and trailers.

We are now recruiting a Fleet and Legal Compliance Assistant who will manage our Operators licence requirements in areas to include:

  • EU Driver Hours and WTD
  • Maintaining fleet to O Licence parameters and not exceeding the limits
  • Maintenance of all fleet records

Job Overview:

  • Ensure legal compliance is achieved and all service and MOT schedules are adhered to
  • Ensure all fleet is logged and its maintenance planned in the Fleet Management System
  • Ensure completion of inspection documents and jobs sheets to the highest standard
  • Provide daily fleet reports for both the warehouse and transport operations, including VOR and damage / repair costs reports
  • Working closely with the on-site VMU to ensure compliance and repairs are carried out to correct standards and in a timely manner

Minimum Criteria

  • A high level of understanding of legal compliance and maintaining roadworthiness.
  • Experience of supervising a team
  • Experience of working within a retail transport environment
  • Experience using fleet management systems
  • Knowledge and experience of fleet industry compliance requirements
  • Knowledge / experience in dealing with DVLA, DVSA, traffic commissioners office
  • Knowledge of workshop systems and job cards
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, practices and procedures
  • Experience in auditing Operator Compliance desirable
  • Understanding of Road Transport Operations desirable

This is an initial 3 – 6 months contract with a possible permanent position for the right person.

Responsibilities…

• Planning of daily collections and processing via in house Velocity system.
• Allocation of vehicles to the loads as booked by the customer, bearing in mind aspects of cost, customer service, tachograph regulations and equipment availability.
• Bookings of boats, bearing in mind aspects such as cost and customer service.
• Regular tracking of vehicles and equipment.
• Keeping customers and drivers informed of progress of transport delays and any other changes.
• Shipping booking confirmation.

 

Essential Criteria…

Previous Transport Planning Experience

Sound geographical knowledge of UK and Ireland

Experience in dealing with customers and drivers (hauliers)
Knowledge of windows based software especially Excel
Attention to detail with particular reference to data input

Available to work 12 hour shifts on a rotation including weekends

Electrical Maintenance Team Leader

Bluestones is working with a leading manufacturing plant in Manchester (Swinton) .  Due to continued growth they require an experienced Maintenance Manager.

Summary:

Working as part of the maintenance team, your key role will be to lead one of the two shift teams providing planned maintenance/breakdown cover for all aspects of the equipment and chemical plant onsite.  You may also be required to provide assistance in installation of equipment and service and to work on the manufacturing side of the business.

Main Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for supervising a team of Maintenance Engineers.
  • Working autonomously, you will be scheduling the completion of both planned maintenance tasks and reactive maintenance tasks, prioritising breakdowns as directed by Production.
  • You will be carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance to all equipment and plan on site working with both engineers and employees and external contractors.
  • You will be ordering required spares and liaising with supplier to ensure availability of critical spares.

  • You will be issuing permits to maintenance engineers and external contractors to carry out work in a safe manner.
  • You will be working on CMMS to record work and report work progress to production.

Essential Criteria 

  • A Formal Engineering training qualification.

Bluestones Staffing is working with a leading manufacturing site in Manchester (swinton) due to continued success and growth they have a requirement for an Shift EICA Maintenance Engineer.

Summary:

Working as part of the maintenance team, you will be a key member of the Engineering team, where you will be providing maintenance/breakdown cover on shift basis for Electrical, Control, Instrumentation and Automation aspects of the equipment and chemical plant on site.  This plant is predominantly chemical based, however, you at times be required to work on manufacturing part of the site.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and maintenance support, carrying out both preventative/planned and reactive maintenance to all equipment and plant on site under the direction of the team leader and /or maintenance manager.
